You know the chords, but struggle to make your guitar playing flow naturally? Discover how rhythm, timing and groove can bring your music to life in this practical guitar workshop!
Through clapping, counting, strumming and playing together, you’ll learn how to develop a steady beat and create more rhythm and expression in your playing. Explore rhythmic subdivisions, accents and syncopation, and discover how small changes in timing can make a big difference to the way your music sounds and feels.
Using a technique called ‘drum mode’, you’ll mute the strings to focus entirely on your strumming hand and rhythmic patterns. Once you feel comfortable with the movements, you’ll apply them to chords and musical examples, gradually building your confidence and sense of groove.
Guitarist Werner Bonthuys guides you step by step in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, with plenty of opportunities to practise and experiment. You’ll leave with practical exercises and a focused ten-minute practice routine to continue developing your skills at home.
This workshop is suitable for acoustic and electric guitarists who already know basic chords. No music-reading skills are required.
